Q: Will my insurance cover it?
A: It’s best to check with your dental plan provider. However, we'll review your coverage and, if necessary, make financial arrangements so you get the care you need.
Q: How long will I be off work?
A: Each patient is different, so this is a difficult question to answer. However, we find that patients only need to take off the day of the procedure. Most are working the next day.
Q: How do I prepare for IV Conscious Sedation?
A: If you have been scheduled for a dental procedure using intravenous conscious sedation, please follow the following instructions. Continue to take prescribed medications unless previously instructed otherwise by Dr. MURRAY. Bring a responsible person with you to drive you home after the procedure. Your driver must be in the office reception area before your sedation can be started.
Q: How long will I be under Sedation?
A: The length of your appointment will depend upon the procedure being done. There will also be a recovery period of 15 to 20 minutes after the procedure is finished. Because of the drowsiness, you must not drive or operate any machinery or be responsible of any minors until the day after your intravenous sedation.
Crowns/Veneers
How long do crown/veneers last ?
A: This will depend largely on how well you look after your teeth. Dental crowns require the same level of care and attention as your natural teeth. Provided you have a good oral hygiene program and attend regular check ups at your dentist and do not suffer from teeth grinding, maintain a toothkind diet and do not do things like open beer bottles with your teeth then a high quality dental crown can last 10-15 years.
Q. What is a veneer?
A: Veneers are a thin slice of porcelain. These are precisely made to fit over the visible surface of front teeth, like a false fingernail fits over a nail.
Q. Why might I need a veneer?
A: Veneers are an ideal way of treating discoloured or unsightly teeth, closing gaps between front teeth, or repairing chips and cracks. In some cases a crown may be more suitable. Basically a crown is a wrap around veneer thus giving more strength and durability. Every case is assessed on its merits.
Q. How long does the treatment take?
A: The process usually takes three to four months. The work itself is carried out under a light sedation - which reassures the more anxious patients. A patient’s ordinary dentures can be worn over the course of the treatment so they can gradually become used to their brand new smile.
Q: How do dental implants rate alongside other treatments in value for money?
A: Dental implants are extremely cost effective and have a 98% success rate over a 9-10 year period which is far better than other, more traditional treatments.
Q: WHY SHOULD I REPLACE MISSING TEETH?
A: Appearance….
A gap left by a missing tooth can mean greater strain on the teeth on either side.
The way you close your teeth together can be affected if there is a gap.
The teeth on either side can lean into the gap which can lead to food getting caught in the gap, which can cause tooth decay and gum disease.
Q: SHOULD I HAVE ONE IMPLANT FOR EACH MISSING TOOTH?
A: No unless you are only having a single tooth replaced. Normally , five or six implants are used to replace all the teeth in one jaw as each implant can usually support two teeth.
Q: CAN IMPLANTS ALWAYS BE USED TO REPLACE MISSING TEETH?
A: It depends on the state of the bone in your jaw. Your dentist will arrange for a number of special tests to find out the amount of bone still available. If there is not enough , or if it isn’t healthy enough, it may not be possible to place implants without grafting bone into the area first.
Q: DO IMPLANTS HURT?
A: Placing implants is a very simple and straight forward procedure. It can be done under local anaesthetic or as most surgeons offer sedation which can make the procedure very comfortable. You will not feel any pain during the procedure but may feel some discomfort during the week after the surgery. This is usually due to having stitches, and the normal healing process.
Q: ARE IMPLANTS EXPENSIVE?
A: Implants can seem more expensive at the start. However over a longer term, implants are usually a more cost effective and far better option . normal dentures that are ill fitting often mean you cant eat, taste your food or speak well due to the dentures moving around. However teeth attached to an implant don’t cause this problem as they are anchored to the bone more firmly than natural teeth.
